| Welcome to the Women’s Health Coalition of Canada’s online event “Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting in Canada: Education, Prevention, & Survivor Support” happening on September 25, 2025, at 6:30 PM (Mountain Time). Join us with special guests from the End FGM Canada Network as they discuss the important topics surrounding FGM/C in Canada, focusing on education, prevention, and providing support to survivors. This webinar will guide participants through a workshop that provides a comprehensive introduction to female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C), with a focus on its presence in the Canadian context. Participants will learn what FGM/C is, why, when, and where it occurs, as well as how it affects individuals and communities. The session also covers how to support survivors or individuals at risk through a trauma-informed approach, including practical guidance on service navigation and advocacy. Attendees will leave with foundational knowledge and tangible ways to take action within their professional and personal capacities INTRODUCING OUR GUEST SPEAKERS from End FGM Canada Network: Alisa Tukkimäki is passionate about social and economic justice and working collaboratively to dismantle systems of oppression. Alisa is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with a Master’s in International Community Development from the University of Calgary. She has over 20 years of experience as a community developer in Alberta, co-creating and managing local and international projects in project design, implementation, and evaluation. With a focus on social justice and human rights, Alisa has worked in the fields of homelessness and poverty reduction, gender-based violence, and most notably, counter-human trafficking. In 2022, Alisa became the National Director of End Female Genital Mutilation Network Canada. Warda Warsame is based in Toronto, Ontario, and has over a decade of experience in community development and settlement services. She is a birth doula and an advocate for reproductive and gender justice, supporting marginalized and diverse populations, particularly newcomers to Canada, through system navigation that centres equity and culturally responsive care. Her work focuses on anti-FGM advocacy, gender-based violence prevention, and social equity.
